This is Why I'm Excited About RIM Acquiring TAT
When the news came out earlier this month about RIM buying The Astonishing Tribe (TAT), an innovative UI company, the blogs all ran a collection of videos of TAT’s design concepts that they’ve yet to actually implement in real life. While theoretical designs are great, I’m more interested in what they have actually done recently.
In this video, we see Engadget interviewing a rep from Fujistu who is showing off their dual-touchscreen flip phone that was developed with a great deal of input from TAT. In it, you can see an email application where you can see your email list on the top screen, and the body of he message in the screen below, but it’s the photo-sharing app that has my interest piqued. In this app, you can share your photos by dragging them to custom made groups of your contacts. Although the functionality hadn’t been made for this interaction demo, the interface is pretty slick. I’m looking forward to see what ideas TAT may have in store for the PlayBook and other future devices.
What do you guys think? Is TAT the company that will bring RIM’s UI into this decade? Will they be able to live up to the hype? Sound off in the comments.
